"Engineering is Everywhere"
Abstract
When thinking about “technologies of the everyday” it is important not to let everydayness obscure the engineering agencies infusing them into our lives and bringing about a mutation of the human condition. Big thinking must not be made a scapegoat for thinking small. In 1982 the Austrian philosopher Günther Anders published “Hiroshima ist überall”, a meditation on the nuclear age. As the world becomes progressively engineered, Anders’ challenge can throw light on the dark energy of the everyday.
